The Avatar Nutrition thread

What's a carb? A car part? What's a macro? A type of camera lens?

So just joined, and bought MyMacros+. I picked slow weight loss going in to my meet in January to make sure that I'm at the right weight. Wow MyMacros+ SUCKS, but it syncs with Avatar apparently so that's a plus, and the only reason I got it.

My macros are 2250 total, 181p, 62f, 242f

Welcome aboard!

I have always used MFP - the syncing wasn't that big a deal and it has the biggest database. Some people seem to really like MM though. Apparently Avatar are bringing out their own tracking app soon.

Yeah I have always used MFP, can you sync MFP directly to Avatar like you can MM+?

No, unfortunately. But it’s not a big deal IMHO - takes me a few moments once a week to setup the week’s macros and I’m done.

Oh, ok. Yeah I've heard there's a big announcement coming for Avatar at the beginning of the year, and I heard it will be a tracker/app.

Yes, and a complete revamp of the website as well.

for anyone using MFP, there's a chrome extension you can install called "food fast fit" and it allows you to set exact macro goals on the desktop MFP site without buying premium service.

Also I got fucked by the algorithm: I had some gastro bug last week so my weigh in had me down a kilo. When I weighed in this week it was back to normal but Avatar only figures the 1 week jump and kept me at the same macros because I put on too much weight in a week

That’s exactly the problem with an automated algorithm.

well despite the "weight gain" it was the first week where I was (marginally) under on all 3 macros and calories so maybe I should repeat and try for better compliance. It's right in spite of itself?

I got added to the early adopter program for Avatar 2.0 and all I got was links to try to share it to friends and family.

I am signed up for a meet now, so my focus is turned up. I've been losing weight on accident because I eat like a bitch. I am 109kg and I'll be competing in the 120kg class in 11 weeks. I want to qualify for nationals, and since I have so much room on weight I figure that is an easy way to make sure I get my total over 700kg.

If I sign up for Avatar today and plan to bulk into my meet, will that be enough time for it to figure out what macros I need for maintenance/bulking?

Depends where it starts you. But probably, yes.

If you have a rough idea of what your macros should be and it starts you too low/high, you can contact them and get them to adjust them.

Then it will automatically adjust at each week's weigh in based on whether you've gained enough weight or not. So it might take a week or two to get things right but if you set say an 'aggressive' weight gain target, if you don't gain enough it will increase them. No reason why you wouldn't be able to gain a kilo a week in 11 weeks if you try.

I cancelled my subscription yesterday. Figured I can do it on my own now.

Ok, thanks. Don’t want to gain a kilo a week (!) - maybe half a kilo though.

Yeah I guess you want to give yourself some headroom! Honestly, you could probably do it yourself, the initial setting up is where it's interesting - if you want to gain you probably need more carbs and less protein than you think. And depending on your preference/current diet, more or less fat. Personally I am tending towards less fat these days but that's because I've been listening to too much Mike Israetel and Broderick Chavez.
