They're high, aren't they? :(

If you plan on competing in powerlifting, yes. If you feel comfortable at that depth & just want to get stronger through that range of motion, no.

Yeah, they are high but it looks like you could hit legit depth without issue.

Thanks all. I guess filming one's lifts is good for something other than just social media narcissism. Pity.

So, assuming I want to rebuild my squat, are there other glaring technique issues that I should address at the same time as my depth?

EDIT - I just re-watched the video with my sound on ... holy crepitus! maybe I should warm-up past 'body is made of rice bubbles' and see how my depth looks then... problem is, I train at 5am (except on delightful public holidays like today) and I never get warmed up past 'rice bubbles' ...

@Col, some loose-ish neoprene knee sleeves would probably be of use for you. The Stoic brand ones are really nice, but the price has gotten up there. Regardless, they will help your knees get warm very quickly and hopefully clear up some of the crepitus.

The Stoics appear to be around $60.
If the money isn't a big issue, i would consider going with the SBDs for $22 to $25 more.

I'll admit, i've never worn the Stoics, but have been damn impressed witrh the SBD's durability, and support.

Regardless of brand, I agree with getting them with your "normal" size, and not going a size small for a non comp pair, and for a first pair especially.

I think those squats actually look pretty good. Yeah, would get red lights at a powerlifting meet, but I think you could hit depth if you tried to, and wouldn't need to take too much weight off to do so. If you're just training for fun, I wouldn't worry about it.

For me, body weight squatting ass to grass helped me get used to depth as a normal range of motion.
Not reps style though, just squatting deep and hanging out there.

I do that pretty much every morning while i drink my two cups of coffee.
It's a big cup, so i do get up and move around, but i'll stay squatting for minutes at a time, just looking out the window and drinking.

I like doing that with the bar too. Not for as long, but i will often do a couple of singles, set the bar on the pins, and just pause for a while, while still bracing.
Way deeper than my normal reps.
That's well before i put on my squat shoes and start my warmups per se.
Just casual, waking things up.
