Not sure of the federation rules but the spotter isn't helping him. One spotters does touch the plate a couple times as he doesn't know how to spot/is afraid a man may die from nearly benching 800 lbs and wishes to sacrifice his biceps in the vain attempt to save him.

He's not joking about 800lb. Planned for May 31st.

Going to watch this on ESPN. It is called "weightlifting". I am unreasonably annoyed by this, it'd be one thing if it's CNN or something. The sports channel should get it correct though.

That was supposed to be May 31st in Kalamazoo, but of course the meet was cancelled and the wedding was postponed. Now it's going to happen in South Bend which is 120 miles from me and honestly I would have drove down there to see it but he said on his IG that it's not going to be open to the public. Oh well, at least I can watch it on youtube in a few minutes.

Yeah, I thought fencing had the worst announcing/interviews, but it turns out I was wrong. I can't believe there was a f'ing misload/unrack mess-up. Really feel for him. I don't know how many 800lbs attempt cycles you get in 1 life, but I can't imagine it's that many and he just wasted one of them.

I think he'll get 800 eventually. He might have had it in himself today... that was hard to watch

Agree. He missed it 2/3rds of the way to lockout. Keep in mind he's only 32.

At first I thought the spotter took it too early, but after watching it again it was clearly the right call. The weight was about to roll to his left.

Just watching this now.
Did people see the 25kg misloaded attempt?

That’s messed up.

Oh yeah... that whole debacle went out live... absolutely unreal that they screwed up that hard.

Feel so sorry for the guy, but honestly that's also on him to make sure that the weights are loaded correctly. Each meet that I have been to they tell us in the lifter meeting that it is also on each lifter to make sure the weights are correct on the bar.

I don't know who this channel is, but it has raw footage of the time immediately after the mis-load.

He behaved better than I think I would have at that moment, but still sucks that he wasn't able to make it happen.

So how do we all feel about the sudden Danial Zamani situation? And do you think it'll push Julius to actually get the 800 soon?

Looks like Zamani will push him pretty close...

I remember the first "Race to 800"...Clark, Henderson, Confessore et al.

What gets me is the speed. He has a past 305kg from early this year on his instagram. Moves like you'd expect it to, hard and a bit of a sticking point. Same with a 310. Then suddenly he posts the new PRs that move like a warmup.

I both don't want to call something fishy, but... dang, that is unbelievable. Dude must have the best peak phase ever.

Also looks like Zamani and Maddox were setting up a head to head on instagram.

I see what you mean but the rapid progress could just as easily be explained by getting on the extra-special stuff...Zamani likely just prefers more extreme short-term cycles (in several senses).
