@ch you're starting to worry me with how much you're in-turn with the local Popeyes scene. You ok man?

Lol, I just drive past it every day and for a while the drive-thru line was spilling out onto the street. Had to remember to get in the left lane or get stuck. I think I've had 5 Popeye's chicken sandwiches since mid-November. Is that a lot?

I do love fried chicken in all forms, though. I'm trying to cut back before I completely clog my arteries.

I cannot say if that's a lot or not, but roughly 1 per week. I'll take a chicken sandwich over a gallon of whole milk any day.

I have cravings pretty rarely. Sometimes a giant pile of fries.
But since I got the "mild" (I'm dainty, it's super hot to me, but my spice-loving dad agreed it was very spicy) spicy chicken from the hipster joint in town, I've basically been craving it non-stop. Only go about once a month though.

I had one for the first time today. I see what all the fuss is about. I like the Chick-Fil-A chicken better, but the breading and subsequent crunchiness of the popeyes, and the spicy mayonnaise is just sublime. I like that it is a little larger too.

It wasn't Arbys or anything, but it was pretty special.

Damn, you’ve got me thinking about it.

I’ve heard of long lines at the nearest one. Fortunately, the neighborhood has plenty of crack for sale to help you stay focused while you wait.

Damn it, I'm going to have to try again. I should get my BiL to stop next time, he is in the area more often than I am (never).

Had a spicy. Thought it was probably the best fast food chicken sandwich I ever had.

Had it yesterday for the first time. Best chicken sandwich ever. Thank god they finally did it - puts all other fast food sandwiches to shame IMO

At chic-fil-a I usually eat two sandwiches, and three if I’m hungry. I got two from Popeyes and they were about the equivalent of 4-5 chic-fil-a sandwiches. Tasted better than chic-fil-a too.

I'm seriously thinking about driving 117 miles to get one of these fuckers. I hate myself.

I had two last night. Both with spicy mayo. Indeed better than CFA.

Are you comparing it to the CFA spicy or regular?

I had the spicy twice this week. And twice last week. I know it well. . . . I'll try the Popeye's next week and compare.

Better than spicy for sure. I’ll have to try the non spicy mayo, but the breading was way better on Popeyes.

BLUF: It's definitely way better than CFA, but probably not worth that drive.

Like CFA with better breading like @mgil noted, and the fry seems better - the breast meat is very flaky and tender, but not sopping with grease nor undercooked for the thicker pieces.

Noted elsewhere here, the size is pretty epic, like a real chicken breast, not symmetrical or flat so half the sandwich can be like an overfilled Reuben, the other really thin.

The bun is solid AF, pretzel-y, better than CFA's.

Popeye's buffalo sauce is legit - runny and vinegary like real buffalo, no cornstarch and dairy to moderate the cayenne flavor and ascetic flavors. Not just a Frank's copy either, is a great addition to the spicy IMO.

###

KFC doesn't have anything that compares...

Reminds me, Need to try out Champ's next time going through Evanston. Anyone here have experience?

Oh lordy this this thing is delicious!!! I drove to a nearby town where there is a Popeye's with a drive through so I could avoid having to line up to go into the ghetto location.

I got two sandwiches for myself, one with a combo so I could eat some Cajun Fries. I could eat the second, but I'd be sick. These are far more substantial than Chik-fil-a. And the bun is buttery. What a sandwhich. It's a nice piece of Popey's fried chicken on a bun with some magic sauce.

I'll probably get two sandwiches and no fries next time. . . . The second sandwich is sitting in front of me calling my name.

Spicy! I don't think I'll bother trying the classic. The spicy is too good. It's pretty hot too.
