My newest business venture...coffee shop owner/partner. Interesting stuff...that 10k roaster can really crank out some beans! My partner is the expert...I just fix, clean and build things. :)

Very cool. If you're ever inspired to post roasting porn [pauses, considers], I think you'd have an engaged audience.

I didn't take any photos but I roasted 216 lbs of coffee yesterday. We have around 2k lbs of beans in stock mostly from Central America, but we do have some Ethiopian beans for a special blend. We use a roasting software that tracks temperatures in multiple locations throughout the drum and input air. Our roaster dude is very, very good at creating profiles so I was just following basic instructions. Easy for me since I was just a monkey pushing buttons. That said, I drank some of my roasts today and boom...not bad. I'll do a couple hundred pounds again friday and then monday. I may try to take a few photos if I think of it.

I recently got a mastech digital thermometer and a couple of sensors. I hook that thing up to my computer and use artisan to monitor/record roasts.

It's changed my entire roasting experience. Way more consistent, way more controlled. I'm able to ramp up/down the temperature as needed for better development.

I think I'm going to do this.

I got the extended roasting chamber. I love it. Roasts are much more even. Even in my cold garage, I rarely go above 4 on the heat setting.

Oh, God, this is the volume, just like industrial production. I'm waiting for the photos too. Btw, which beans do you prefer? I'm tired from Italian roast or Jamaican beans, probably you'll give me wise advice
All the best

Anyone have an estimate on energy cost per pound of roast coffee?

About 6 cents a pound using my SR800 Fresh roast.

Takes ~ 10 mins to roast 10oz of green beans. So, with 15% water loss about 20 mins of roasting per pound.

Unit is 1750W

Electricity = 11 cents/kWh

So (1750/3) Wh/1000 * 11ish cents.

Thanks! I was looking at some roasting stuff and saw some really hand wavey nonsense. I will admit, at 6 cents per pound, I think hand waiving it away is probably pretty justified.

Yeah. It's nothing.
