Is Neal Brennan's "3 Mics" still up on Netflix? That shit was fucking great.

I've only seen one of the Bedtime Stories. Thanks for reminding me about those. Check it out! with Steve Brule taught me how to play crasino games.

Not Netflix and not Tim and Eric, but y'all know about Too Many Cooks?

Watch party tonight. Might drop in for some food then go home to watch it alone, without other people and my own food. I considered not sleeping last night and just powering through til I finished this morning.

Watched Mind Hunters. Good show, the ending was a bit unsatisfying.

First episode of Stranger Things 2 was good.

Like everyone else thought Iron Fist sucked. Don't like the lead character, at all.
It's like there were two writers alternately doing his dialog, and they fundamentally disagreed on his character and motivations.
Sometimes he was a sensitive Bernie-bro trustafarian new-age city boy, then he'd go into a (curiously tepid) rage and punch people, then he'd be emo about his dead parents.

Then he'd decide he needed to make major financial decisions about running a billion-dollar business, and be allowed to by supposedly-competent executives despite having an apparent IQ of about 110 and being raised on a fucking mountain in Tibet with all the math and economics education that implies.

Then he'd suddenly decide to become a vigilante again, fighting the scourge of a new opiate drug that costs less and has fewer side-effects, and that people enjoy. To solve this social problem, he punches people.

I'm sure it got worse from there, but even I have my limits, and couldn't finish the series.

I agree, the character of Danny was just, for lack of better words, a fucking idiot and whiny crybaby. It's just not what I would expect out of a character supposedly raised by monks. Fight scenes were pretty lackluster as well. Like, I'm meant to buy that this dude has been training every day since he was ten? And what was with the mighty Iron Fist getting his ass kicked every other day?

The issue is that Iron Fist is a crap character to begin with, from his comic book origins. Everything about him was pastiche. He was basically Batman/Green Arrow meets The White Guy Who OutAsians Asians, i.e., two huge, incredibly trite tropes that were smashed together badly. Gil Kane and Roy Thomas probably thought they had the new chocolate and peanut butter, but what they got was Panda Express General Tso's.

The TV show's creators could have updated the story in many potentially interesting ways to deal with the lameness of both the billionaire superhero trope and the white Asian hero trope but didn't, so the fundamental inadequacy of the character remains and shines through shitacularly.

So on a positive note, yesterday I watched 3/4 of the new Castlevania show. Pretty damn good, definitely succinct. I'm surprised there are only 4 episodes, it feels likely barely anything will happen. I'm looking forward to more.

It's not perfect, but it's short so there's that. I think Dracula's character is kind of silly, but I kind of see what they're going for. The main character is great, and the voice acting is perfect for what they're going for.

The character could have been great. 10 years on a mountain speaking only Tibetan and practicing Kung Fu, then dropped back into New York City!

* He's missed 10 years of cultural memes, Captain America style.
* He formed his adult persona as a high-ranking warrior in a macho, violent subculture, and now lives in a city where punching someone is a felony.
* He missed out entirely on dating, hasn't interacted with women since early puberty.
* New role as owner of a corporation, but has only a 7th-grade education -- imposter syndrome to the max.

There's so much drama there. But the writers ignored it all.

His character acts exactly as if he grew up as a spoiled rich kid in NYC, then dropped out of college a year ago and did some drugs & meditation.
Then was bitten by a radioactive sensei who transmitted Kung Fu into him w/o changing his personality.

The MA stuff is also awful, which is a crime for a show about mystical kung fu powers.

I'm 2 eps into Abstract: The Art of Design and enjoying it. Every episode is a profile of a prominent someone in a design field.

Stranger Things 2 lived up to the hype. Man I can't wait for Season 3.

Are we lucky or what? The age of Netflix has ushered in amazing shows that would have never seen the light of day from the network/cable TV providers. Fuck yeah.
