OHP: 92.5 x 3 x 3 (5RIR; increase to 97.5)

Pullups: 5 x 5

DB curls: 25 x 15 x 3

30 min cardio

Not sure how useful these 3x3 sessions are. For squats/deads, maybe, but for upper body lifts it just doesn't seem like enough. I feel like I should be doing at least a couple more sets.

Did a few more training days of this "SBS Linear Progression" program (thought it was a version of Average to Savage, but whatever), but (of course there's a but) for reasons I don't feel like detailing right now, decided to bail and won't bother logging those sessions. Just did a short bench session today to do something.

Bench: 160 for 7 sets of 5
Dead-hang pullups: 7 sets of 3

Plus some arm stuff, of course.

Haha... :?

Sometimes I wonder if I would have been better off not getting into barbell training in the first place. It's starting to feel silly to sink so much time into a hobby I'm not even very good at, and I wonder if I would be happier just riding my bike and doing some calisthenics or something.

Guess I was in a bad mood the other night... Oh well. Moving on.

Tuesday, January 19, 2021

Dead-hang pullups: 8, 6, 4, 2, 1

30 min cardio

Looked around for a pullup program to do every other day, but every one I found was just some variation of an ascending/descending pyramid and adding a rep or two each time. Haven't done dead-hangs in a long time and was decently sore the next day.

Thanks. Of all the lifts, squats have been the hardest to relearn, and I was never very good at them to begin with.

At the very least, they always seem to drive up my deadlift, even if I'm not doing a lot of pulling.

Dead-hang pullups: 8, 7, 5, 3, 2

~20 minutes cardio

Friday, January 29

Bench: 177.5 x 5 x 5

LB squat: 220 x 5 x 5

Keeping squats from turning into squat-mornings is getting to be a challenge at this point. Also need to keep an eye on depth-creep.

Bench:
175 x 5 (misload  )
180 x 5 x 4

LB squat:
225 x 5 x 5

Skullcrusher:
65 x 20, 20, 18

Finally back at lmao2pl8 on squats. Felt fine and still managing to keep rest periods <= 2 minutes.

May start bringing deadlifts back into the rotation now that I've given squats some time to catch up.

Pullups:
9, 7, 5, 3, 2, 1

DB curls:
25 x 20 x 3

Bike intervals:
:20 / 1:20 x 7 rounds

Wednesday, January 3, 2021

OHP:
95 x 5 x 5

DL:
295 x 5 x 3

Meant to do more sets of deads as well as some benching of some sort, but it was getting late and I may have gone too heavy on deads right out of the gate. Was originally planning on 275, but presses felt easy, so I got a little greedy.

Tsor,

I've been keeping my eye on your log for a while now, and I think you're doing great!

Only thing I'd work on, is to not over reach. Take your time building your strength back. And as you re-build that strength, give yourself a hell of a lot of credit for every fuckin' rep you're able to do.

Carry on...

Hey, thanks! I really appreciate that. That's some really great advice. I have a tendency, especially recently, to have this feeling of where I should be strength-wise, which can cause frustration and impatience. When I think about what kind of shape I was in less than a year ago, though, it really puts things in perspective and I'm grateful to even be able to lift at all.

Playing a bit of catch up here. Took a few days off earlier in the week due to having a colonoscopy on Tuesday, even though there isn't much left to look at anymore. I was surprised to find out they went into my small intestine as well.

I really could have trained those days, but was a bit hangry due to not being able to eat the day before and tired/dopey the day of.

Looks like I took the prior weekend Saturday off, too. Can't remember why, but I was probably just really tired and/or short on time.

Tsor,

Do what you can, when you can youngster!

Prep for a scope and the attendant day after are never fun, even when one is the picture of health.

More catch up, let's see where I left off...

Saturday, Feb 13, 2021

Pullups:
9, 7, 6, 4, 3, 2

BB curl:
45 x 20 x 2

Monday, Feb 15

Bench:
190 x 5 x 5

LB Squat:
245 x 5 x 5

DB skullcrusher:
30 x 18, 16, 15

Tuesday, Feb 16

Pullups:
9, 8, 6, 4, 3, 2

DB curl:
30 x 17, 15, 13

Wednesday, Feb 17

OHP:
Worked up to 140 x 1 @ 10

DL:
Worked up to 405 x 1 @ 10

Bench:
145 x 10 x 3

General notes

I've been doing this simple 5x5 progression for bench and squat for about 4 weeks now, and while I made some decent progress, it's starting to feel like the time to move on to something else. Might have a few more pounds of bench to gain, but squats started getting grindy on that last workout and I'm noticing some old bad habits starting to creep up again. Pullups are starting to get close to failure, too, so it's going to be hard to keep adding reps to the to top sets at this point, at least without dropping a few pounds.

Went on a few casual bike rides recently, and felt really out of shape, so it might be nice take a few weeks to just focus on endurance.

Wanted to get a feel for how strong my OHP and deadlift are, and was pretty pleased with the numbers. Feels good to finally be able to lift 405 again!
