Re: Hardartery - Recreational Outrage
My wife is a remarkably sedentary person. I still persist is asking her every time I go though, just to see what happens.Hardartery wrote: ↑Tue May 02, 2023 8:14 pmMy wife does the walking normally, but without me in the afternoons. I decided being on vacation I could give it a go, especially seeing as I can get a shower whenever I want here. I will miss this shower when I am not here, I spent some money on the fixtures and it is delightful. I get the tingles down to my toes in there when I stand under that rainfall shower head, like when you use one of those wire scalp massager things but better. Sigh.MarkKO wrote: ↑Mon May 01, 2023 5:04 pmYou added your wife. Mine steadfastly refuses to join me.Hardartery wrote: ↑Mon May 01, 2023 3:17 pmI am at that point in my life that yes, I'm going to call it a win. LOL. I went for a walk with the wife wearing my weighted vest, ala MarkKOMarkKO wrote: ↑Mon May 01, 2023 1:15 pmKind of a win?Hardartery wrote: ↑Mon May 01, 2023 5:33 amLooks fine today, nothing remarkable. Sore, but for some reason my legs are very sore today, much more sore than normal and certainly more sore than they should be from the workout that I did.
A good shower is a wonderful thing.

Saturday 5/6/23
DL - conventional
245 x 5 - DOH
335 x 3
425 x 2
515 x 3 - straps
565 x 1 - suit on, straps down
605 x 1
515 x 5 - no suit
I tried a rep with the straps up, and could not draw a real breath before the pull. That suit thing really needs some time I think, it wears me out just getting into position and then I can't draw a new breath.

Re: Hardartery - Recreational Outrage
Would it work to take a breath before getting into position or does that take too long to be viable?

Re: Hardartery - Recreational Outrage
It was taking me too long. I was using the leather straps not figure 8's. What most guys do is roll the bar away to allow enough extension to draw the breath, but I wasn't having any luck getting the bar to play ball with me. It needs some practice, but I could maybe actually get something from the suit if I work it out at some point.

Sunday 5/7/23
DL - conventional - yeah again
515 x 1 - mixed grip
515 x 5 x 2 sets - straps
First set was the warmup, just wanted to feel it without straps. The second (last) set was cake, felt like several more in the tank. Maybe even 10 if I wanted. But I am trying to reign it in for now.

TBH that sums all gear up pretty well.Hardartery wrote: ↑Sun May 07, 2023 7:52 pmIt was taking me too long. I was using the leather straps not figure 8's. Strict MP - from the rack after the first one
135 x 5 x 2 sets
185 x 4
205 x 3
225 x 1 x 2 sets
205 x 3 x 3 sets
That's it, unless I sneak back down there later tonight which is unlikely.

Floor Press
245 x 5 x did I lose a bet? sets
Side Raises
75 x 5 x 3 sets
So, the floor press sets are unknowable, I would guess between 10 and 15 sets. Somewhere in there. I was doing other stuff like painting the double doors and a picture frame and just doing sets in between. It was a lot, I was feeling like maybe not more than maybe 1 RIR by the end. Just pounded things. I may be paying for this tomorrow.

Saturday 5/13/23
Squats
135 x 3
225 x 3
315 x 3
405 x 3
475 x 1 x 2 sets
405 x 3
Straight Leg Kick backs? - standing at the cable thingie with an attachment on my shoe that clips to the cable, pull the leg backwards without bending it to work the hamstring/glute
If anyone knows an accepted correct name for this please let me know
monkeying around with various weights to figure out what to use
80 x 10 x 3 sets each leg
The Squats sucked, my left hip hurt internally towards the groin side on everything until the first 475 set. Everything clicked and stopped hurting with that weight, even the knees. It felt like I had 2 RIR on it, it was lighter than 405 somehow but the second single felt really slow so I backed off there. The kickback things really felt much more substantial and useful than the hamstring curls did, I could feel it at the top and in the glutes a little and only marginally in the calves. I bought a little harness from Amazon to bring back with me while I was in the US, seems like an excellent decision so far.

Re: Hardartery - Recreational Outrage
I should add, it was 100 degrees (39 C) when we landed on Thursday and the same again Friday but slightly less than that today. I didn't check at the peak, but I don't think we got there today. The seasonal rain seems to have arrived last night to some degree so it will hopefully be closer to 90 going forward.

Re: Hardartery - Recreational Outrage
I think they're just called "glute kickbacks" (to differentiate from the tricep version), or "donkey kickbacks" if there's appreciable knee flexion.Hardartery wrote: ↑Sat May 13, 2023 4:15 pmStraight Leg Kick backs? - standing at the cable thingie with an attachment on my shoe that clips to the cable, pull the leg backwards without bending it to work the hamstring/glute

Tuesday 5/16/23
Bench - Flat, because people
135 x 10
225 x 5
275 x 3
295 x 3
315 x 1
295 x 3
275 x 3
Honestly, pretty easy and I used no leg drive. I felt it twinge a little in the left shoulder on a few reps but nothing serious.
Lateral Raises
75? x 10 x 3 sets
75? x 4
I am guesstimating the DB weights, it was some plates on screw collar handles with the screw collars welded on. Reps 7-10 were all iffy in my opinion so I did the extra short set.
Laterals but just top ROM from a couple of inches below parallel to a couple above parallel
30 x 5 x 3 sets
French Press - cable stack - V-handle
stack x 15 x 2 sets
stack x 12
***note - rookie move on the first set, the cable is exposed along the arm on the floor and I was pushing against that arm and the cable was squeezed between my foot and the steel for about the first ten reps, and they were hard as hell but man did I feel it in the tris.
Cable Crunches
stack x 30 x 2 sets

Thursday 5/18/23
Pullover Machine
90/side x 10
125/side x 5
160/side x 3 x 3 sets
125/side x 5
Leg Extensions
1 plate x 15
2 plate x 15
3 plates x 15
4 plates x 10 x 3 sets
Strict Press - from rack
135 x 5
185 x 5 x 5 sets
Good Morning
135 x 5
225 x 5 x 3 sets
At this point, fluid loss was an issue. Not just for dehydration concerns, but I was standing in a small lake of my own perspiration which is frankly iffy as far as traction. I sat down and finished the water in my camelbak, but was kinda loopy on the walk home so good session.

Saturday 5/20/23
Reverse Flyes
90 x 5 x 3 sets
Cross Body Curls - DB - palms up
90 x 4 x 3 sets
DB Curls
65? x 5 x 3 sets (More of those spin collar welded DB's so the weight is an educated guess)
Seated Revers Rotations - DBs - using the shoulder press machine to sit in and rest my arms on top of the machine arms
40 x 2
35 x 2 x 5 sets
Cable Stack - V-Handle
French Press
Stack x 17 x 2 sets
Stack x 14 x 2 sets
Curls
Stack x 10 x 3 sets
It is really hot. REALLY hot. The rain was only once at night so far, but supposedly it will actually start the daily rain on Thursday that signals "Winter" is here and it goes back down to 90 degrees (32 C) during the day and stops being so brutal. I have swelling in my feet and lower legs off and on from the heat right now, and being back in a mild cut on keto means I smell heavily of ammonia when I get a good sweat going.

Squats
135 x 5
225 x 3
315 x 3
405 x 3
475 x 2, 1
405 x 3
Good Mornings
315 x 5 x 2 sets
Glute Kickbacks - plate loaded cable
100 x 8 x 3 sets each leg
At this point I was out of water, both in the backpack and my body so I stumbled home. It's still a little over the top with the heat, I'm not sure how hot but it was 35 C (that's 95 F) but "Felt like" 39 C or 100 F by 10:30 AM. Yep. Fun stuff. The squats look faster than they felt, the second top set was REALLY slow so I did not go for the second rep. They felt really great, like everything was firing pretty well, but slow. It felt like 2 more if I wanted to grind, but in this heat I do not. My hands are pins and needles bordering on numb by the 5 reps of GM, so that helps me decide when to stop.

Incline Press
135 x 5

285 x 3 x 3 sets
265 x 4
225 x 8
French Press - cable stack - V-handle

stack x 11 x 2 sets
stack x 15
Lateral Raises
85 x 5 x 4 sets
Cable Crunches - Rope handle
stack x 31 x 2 sets
The esteemed Jack Lalanne plates have resurfaced at the gym, so I used 20's instead of 25's on the way up. That and I couldn't find a pair of 25's. I thought about doing some lateral work going back and forth between just below to just above horizontal again but that simply was not going to happen today after the main work. Shoulders said no, and the forearms are extremely pissed off for some reason. Probably going to switch to the rope handle for the French Press, it felt a lot harder when playing around with it between the sets of ab work.
