I believe Elon's goal from the beginning was to build the financial platform he thinks Paypal or X.com could/should have been before he sold it. I think his primary purpose in buying twitter was for the mailing list.

I agree that Musk has always had in the works developing an 'everything' ap. He has said as much. The decisions he has made sense buying Twitter has eroded the user base and diminished his own credibility which makes his 'everything' ap have questionable viability.

Bloomberg has just reported that X is trying to build an in-app trading hub, and are looking for a financial services partner for it. Interesting.

I am under the same impression, and just surprised that trading is included not just payments and banking. I think that will draw the Gamestop/Robinhood fanbois in, probably the smartest initial move as far as cashflow for the company.

For sure. I am convinced he was also generally sincere about the whole, future of human discourse, free speech town square stuff, so this hits on multiple priorities for him.
