Preacher Curl Bench
I think the Preacher Curl Bench isolates your biceps so you can't cheat, use momentum, or lean the way you can with standing Curls.
Is there any other reason to use a preacher curl Bench?
(Background: Used one for sale near me. Debating whether it's worth the garage space. Never had big Biceps, don't know this world.)

Similar isolation with lower risk is the old school arm blaster.

Just put your arms over a bar in your rack. Takes exactly 0 extra garage space.

Have you considered the “preacher pad”? Looks like a cheap way to do preacher curls without taking up much room in your gym space.

You'd be better off setting your elbows into your thighs or sitting sideways on the bench and bracing your elbows on it. The point of a Preacher is to prevent the elbows swinging, and your elbows are swinging to beat the band.Allentown wrote: ↑Tue Aug 23, 2022 3:54 pmCleverusername wrote: ↑Mon Aug 22, 2022 9:20 pm Have you considered the “preacher pad”? Re: Preacher Curl Bench
I have a cheap armblaster from Amazon. Using it has taught me how strict, isolating curls feel, and now I can get the same feeling/mechanics from regular curls (without a harness digging into my ribs).
That said, if you have a mirror to face while curling, nothing strokes your vanity quite like preacher/armblaster curls since it squishes all your triceps (and flab, if applicable) and makes your arms look huge.

I wouldn't get one, unless you really like preacher curls. A way that you can do preacher curls with a more generally useful piece of equipment is the adjustable bench. You can stand and do it one handed. This is the idea:hector wrote: ↑Sun Aug 21, 2022 9:16 am I think the Preacher Curl Bench isolates your biceps so you can't cheat, use momentum, or lean the way you can with standing Curls.

+1. The way @Allentown is doing it is just mimicking the preacher curl position, and not its stability.Hardartery wrote: ↑Tue Aug 23, 2022 4:06 pmYou'd be better off setting your elbows into your thighs or sitting sideways on the bench and bracing your elbows on it. Why is this lower risk? Less shoulder flexion?mgil wrote: ↑Sun Aug 21, 2022 2:12 pm Similar isolation with lower risk is the old school arm blaster.

I could be wrong, but I think that you’re at lower risk of over-extending the elbow.Renascent wrote: ↑Tue Aug 23, 2022 5:27 pmWhy is this lower risk? Less shoulder flexion?mgil wrote: ↑Sun Aug 21, 2022 2:12 pm Similar isolation with lower risk is the old school arm blaster.

One thing to be clear about regarding anything with these types of setups… do not go heavy. That’s where the tendon damage can more readily happen. Just crank out tons of reps with moderately light weight.

Re: Preacher Curl Bench
Interesting. I wonder if you could get the bar setup closer to your elbow to prevent cheating the rep? That’s a really cheap way to find out if you like preacher curls.Allentown wrote: ↑Tue Aug 23, 2022 3:54 pmCleverusername wrote: ↑Mon Aug 22, 2022 9:20 pm Have you considered the “preacher pad”? Re: Preacher Curl Bench
Yeah, the goal was replicating the preacher curl angle, minimizing shoulder involvement, and doing it for $0. The pool noodle was leftover from car seat installation. Between regular concentration curls, those, and my new cable setup, I don't think I need a dedicated space and $ device.
Though I'll be honest I very tempted by that preacher pad.
