Video splicing and overlays for Android?

#1

Post by cgeorg » Wed Nov 08, 2017 12:06 pm

Hey all,

I'd like to be able to trim down videos (fine using default android functionality for this), throw some text on them and then splice them together. I want to do this on my phone. I've tried a couple apps but they didn't work - can't remember their names off the top of my head, but it was probably the top 2-3 free ones that looked like they might work. I'd pay up to $5 for this.

I use one called Video Editor. I think I searched "Samsung video editor" or something. It was free. It's... purple, and a pic of a box with dashed line and a video progress line on the right side.

I've used Viva video and inshot. Viva got a bit buggy. Neither are perfect but they get the job done, once you work then out

AndroVid does trimming, cutting chunks out, crop the video to a square or whatever shape, splice vids together, add music, and text overlay (but back when I was using it, it wasn't the really sexy text overlay Gilchrest uses, they might have fade in/out now though). The pro version is $2. https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... ovid&hl=en

Tried all of the suggestions, Power Director is definitely the best for what I'm looking to get from it. Thanks!

Wow. That's really nice software. You can create multiple audio channels and adjust the volume on each. I just made a voice over on a test project and turned down the music. . . .

From going through the various programs, I came to discover just how hard it is to make intuitive and powerful controls with the provided real estate. Power Director really does a good job of that, and it was the only one that I was able to create a fairly quick and repeatable process to trim and splice video, and add text overlays. You can put a stroke on the text so you can actually read it, and duplicate the key to keep the properties and positioning, just changing the text for subsequent videos. It will snap overlay start/endpoints to the video start/endpoints which is so key. Transitions for the text are nice (not between texts though, that I saw). And I'm definitely not scratching the surface of what it can do.

Takes about 10 minutes to put together something like this:

I know this thread is old, but last week, I struggled to edit my gym workout plan with iMovie, that's inbuilt for iOS. I started to search for some easy tools to use and still wonder what's the best choice for you nowadays?

I've been using Movavi for a while now. The interface is intuitive and makes the editing process pretty smooth, especially when it comes to tasks like merging, splitting, or even just making minor tweaks.

Read this article on how to cut video with Movavi to find out more about its features.
