One's first experience with Souls games is like taking a test and realizing the test in on an entirely different subject than the one you prepared for.

I got Demon Souls for the PS3. Kept dying at the tutorial boss (you are supposed to). Rage quit. Dark Souls came out. Was so in. Read a Forbes article that broke down the game was perfect. I was what was wrong. Just grinded through shear grit to get to first boss. Finally beat first boss and it all clicked and made sense. I slowed down my gameplay, became very intentional, and adopted the mindset that every death was a learning experience. Souls games are the most rewarding game experience I have ever had.

Picked up the remastered Demons Souls for PS5. Amazzze Ballzzz.

I already told my GF I will disappear for a month when Elden Ring is released.
Yep, same experience with DS3 for me. I technically did not die to THE tutorial boss that much, but the optional boss (crystal lizard) like 20 times. Several times told myself "fuck this game". Through sheer anger decided to keep playing and eventually could not stop and loved the experience. Like you said, very rewarding once you stop getting slaughtered all the time.

Did a second play-through with a pyromancer, slaughtered both bosses in the tutorial without dying with a very satisfied smirk on my face.

Elden Ring should be crazy. I cannot imagine a DS approach to an open world game. Will likely require many playthroughs if they stick with their highly ambiguous, yet profound effects on the game quest approach.

From Software very recently did a 'open' beta test of Elden Ring with essentially a finished build of the game. It did not disappoint. The game may live up to the hyperbole:

Finally started the Witcher 3. There's too much content.

True. But mostly good content. And it is easy to just skip 'fetch' quests and the like if you want. But my gaming OCD makes that almost impossible.

Yeah I can't skip stuff either.
But I have been pleased with the quality of the filler.

I've been itching to play through again. I logged _way_ too many hours in that game. Hell, I probably logged like an hour just sitting on Roach up on some damn cliff watching a sunset in Toussaint....

What are people buying in the Steam winter sale?

I have a poverty level computer so a lot of modern games won't play on my computer, but I'm still going to sift for some deals. I should upgrade my system at some point but I just hate being gouged.

Picked up the Guardians of the Galaxy game. It got a lot of good reviews surprisingly.

Playing through Halo Infinite on Game Pass. Highly recommend for PC or Xbox owners.

I stil have a backlog from 2020 summer sale so I'm not buying anything but get Deus Ex GOTY for a buck if you don't have it already. Also System Shock II.

Got as PS5. Not on purpose, I signed up for the Sony Direct lottery a few months ago and I got an email and said "sure why not?"

Neat console. Quite a few free games with ps+, which is only $35/yea with discounts.

I know I'm late o the party, but Spider-Man(ps4) was a great game. Fun to play and a fantastic story. I actually ended up tearing up during the finale. The remaster on ps5 has great graphics.

Immediately play Michael Morales. It is like a stream lined version where they improved almost every aspect of gameplay and removed bloat.

Fuck game developers. They release a handful of qualify games over 2 plus years (and most were remakes!). Then in the same month they drop Dying Light 2, Next-Gen Cyberpunk 2077, Horizon Forbidden West, and Elden Ring.

That is over a year's worth of gaming dropped in the same month. Fuck.

So buy one of them(I'm guessing Dying Light 2 will stay high costed) and wait for the rest to be 20-30 bucks in a month.

If you enjoy Warhammer, and you enjoy PvP MMORPGs, there is actually a free shard that's been running basically since the live servers of Warhammer Online shut down. It's lots of fun.

Is anybody else on the waiting lists for a Steam Deck? I got on relatively early, but I'm still waiting in Q2

Is God of War worth a play through? Or worth waiting to get on sale?

I'm picked up Horizon Zero Dawn on sale a while back. I think I'm about half way through it, but I'm just not getting into it. It's hard to go from AC: Valhalla with an engaging plot and where you can fluidly leap, run climb, and generally just not get stuck to something like HZD.

I picked up Cyberpunk at the same time and haven't played it yet. Maybe I'll give that a go instead.
