Re: Onwards with tectonic swiftness.
Fairly quiet, except the racks were occupied. I wouldn't mind but after got my deadlift warmed up, one of the rack blockers turned out to be doing one set of presses and then buggered off, leaving the bar covered in chalk. Chalk for 30kg!
It's an odd mix. The ladies get on with the workout and look athletic along with moving some pretty fearsome weights (3 plate hip thrust, anyone?) SOme of the men look like a ton of suet in a half ton sack and walk about in belts' knee wraps. wrist wraps, gloves and other paraphenalia while doing toning exercises with weedy weights. There was some old guy who spent a good twenty minutes wrapping his hands before putting on boxing gloves and then basically pushing the punch bag around for a bit. I hope for his sake he never gets in an actual fight because he will be dead in seconds, possibly from exhaustion.
Anyway

Kettlebell press up to 24x2

The candlestick lever:
Here's a rubbish example from a fat crossfitter
I reckon I'm better than that.

Re: Onwards with tectonic swiftness.
Chalk for presses ? If the bar is chromed and feels a bit slippy, then yes. Chalk goes on the hands, it's not for decorating the bar.
Anyway: T'was Christmas day for a workout... Not as quiet as I hoped.
LBBS w/u 110x4 100x5 beltless
Bench w/u 80x1 65x5x4 65x9

KB press, up to 24, failed 26
Candlestick lever x2, still got DOMS from the last lot.

Re: Onwards with tectonic swiftness.
You don't say.
I've simply never used it for any push movement, as I've never once felt there was any possibility of losing a press or bench press even with the least knurling (other than during my brief and idiotic experiments with suicide grip).

busier,
LBBS w/u 112.5x3 100x5
Bench up to 90x1 TNG
Power clean up to 70x1
DL w/u 137.5x5 125x5
I heard a lot of howling and crashing from the machine room upstoirs. Then Noisy, Sweary Bloke turned up. Set for a 2 plate squat, put knee wraps on (wrongly) set the safeties way high, pulled bench in, bent his knees a bit and never touched the bench. Then he put 120 on and spent his time cursing "Oh, @££@ it's so heavy" and the like. Dude, nobody cares about your quarter squat.
Punched the bag for a bit "cardio"

Re: Onwards with tectonic swiftness.
I, on the other hand, have had a bench press slip as my hands rotated thumbwards and damn nearly dropped the bar on myself. I like to feel I have a tight grip on the bar and I don't if my hands are sliding about.
Not for a 30 kilo lift though, even one handed.

Re: Onwards with tectonic swiftness.
Unpleasantly busy. Some wonks doing deadlifts in the studio area. Whacking the trip-grip on the floor. I pointed out the bumpers. "Nah, not heavy enough" I was told. Well, you failed your attempt with a belt and straps after resting for ten minutes, so...

Re: Onwards with tectonic swiftness.
New year ? £$@$@£cks, it looks just like the old one, cold wet, world full of nincompoops. Luckily, the death rate now exceeds the birth rate, so the problem (i.e people) should solve itself.
LBBS w/u 105x5 95x6
interrupted by bratty child grabbing a plate, taking it to a cable machine and then standing on it after removing shoes ! then she tried to put it back while I was warming up. I suggested she use the sanitiser. She, wearing headphones, did not understand. I shoved the sanitiser and roll at her. She declared "There's no need to be so rude". I pointed out, at length, that it's rude to interrupt someone's set, grab weights when there are plenty more around, on unused stations and then try to return it in an insanitary condition.
I didn't fight through two world wars, I admit, but kids these days need a touch of the 2x4.
