I don't know if you heard me counting, but I did over 1000
Ugh, the log section on this site really needs to be broken into categories like "Advanced" or "Beginner" or "non-lifting poser" (me) so that my log doesn't end up right next to a bunch of ladies who lift like twice as much as me. #nosexist
Anyway, if you don't know, what I do is lift for several months, get close to running out a basic LP, and then get distracted with other hobbies, kids, whatever. That's just how I roll. One missed workout turns into a week, which turns into a month which turns into six. So we'll see what happens this time.
The good news is, I know from experience approximately what starting weights work well for me after an extended layoff.
Currently about 225# in the buff (5'10).
9/16/17
SQ 225x5,5,5
PR 105x5,5,5
DL 265x5
This is about where I started off last time, and as before, was enough to break a sweat but not grind-it-out heavy.
9/17/17
Paused squats 135x5,5,5
Just thought I would try these out after reading the thread in T** P***ply. Just trying to keep from being so stiff and sore tomorrow that I can't train. Probably not enough weight or reps to matter but we'll see.

Lift if you enjoy it and have fun.
Are you a home garage guy or do you go to a gym?

Garage gym. Nothing fancy, just the necessities. My wife lifts, actually she's gotten pretty serious about it the past year or so. Sort of shamed me into getting back to it. She PR'd a 2 plate deadlift a couple weeks ago.Chebass88 wrote:Lift if you enjoy it and have fun.

I don't dislike lifting, but I don't enjoy it for it's own sake as much as it seems like some of you guys do. I'm after the benefits it brings in the ~165 hours or so I'm not under the bar.

Re: I don't know if you heard me counting, but I did over 1,
I did that for the first 3-4 years... once something comes up and you get out of the habit, it can really snowball and end up being months away from lifting. I got a grasp on it a couple of years ago and have progressed since then. I suggest really making yourself go - don't miss workouts when you know you can fit them in. If you have to take 2 weeks off, don't let it turn into 4 weeks when you know it doesn't have to. You'll be glad AF that you didn'tmikeylikey wrote: Anyway, if you don't know, what I do is lift for several months, get close to running out a basic LP, and then get distracted with other hobbies, kids, whatever. This is me too. Except I'll just let a day off turn into 2 weeks off which is even worse than less frequent longer layoffs, I thinkKregna wrote:I did that for the first 3-4 years... once something comes up and you get out of the habit, it can really snowball and end up being months away from lifting. Re: I don't know if you heard me counting, but I did over 1,
You should consider the KISS method I'm using once you get to the point that LP breaks down. It really is a lot easier to keep going when you know your workout will take 30 minutes at most, if you want. And then everything else is whatever you feel like. There's a freedom in it that I enjoy.
Full disclosure, the only exception is the last week of 5x5 @ 85%. For the first cycle, if you start light it's not so bad. But after that if you're working off a "real max", that is a scary week. I usually just do the main lift and that's it though, so it's still only like 45 minutes.

To be fair, I was like the 5th or 6th one in. So I got leapfrogged by approximately everybody.Allentown wrote:I was wondering how long your log would be at the very bottom of the list...
And I fully intend to leverage this information into any disagreement that may arise between us on subjects having nothing to do with the lifting of weights.I wish you weren't deadlifting more than me, though.

Re: I don't know if you heard me counting, but I did over 1,
I wasn't at the very bottom of the list this time. Next to it, though. Went camping/hiking over the past weekend, so skipped a workout or three.
9/27/17 5:20AM*
SQ 225x5,5,5
PR 115x5,5,5
DL 275x5,5,5
My original plan was to drop back one increment in weights since A) It'd already been over a week since my last workout, and B) my numerous experiences re-running the beginner's LP have taught me it's better to go to light at the very beginning than too heavy. After about the 2nd set of squats I realized that was was over-cautious. Everything was pretty easy today.
*I have never tracked this really consistently, but I am pretty sure that my best progress in the past has been during times when I was consistently lifting early in the morning. So it seems like a variable worth adding to the list.

Ah yes, the "once every 8 days" program. I made progress on that one.

Re: I don't know if you heard me counting, but I did over 1000
Been too busy lifting to post much.
Aggregated from most recent couple of workouts:
DL 335x5 ties lifetime PR
Press 1.0 140x5,5,5 ties lifetime PR
Bench 187.5x5,5,5 (previous best 192.5)
Squat 320x5,5,5; attempted 325 twice, 5,3,3 each time.
Program for most of that time has been:
A:
Heavy squat 5,5,5
Bench 5,5,5
Power Clean 3,3,3,3,3
B:
Light squat (90% of heavy day) 5,5
Press 5,5,5
Deadlift 1x5 with backoff set of 5 at ~90% of heavy set. The extra volume got me through a sticking point and DL currently feels the best of all my lifts.
Pretty consistently lifting exactly every other day.
Have lost a little weight, from 230# down to ~ 217# since mid November. Eating clean, probably not getting enough protein.
Eating and recovery have been meh. Lots of life stress at the moment. Most lifts feel pretty good, squat is obviously foundering.
Planning a de-load week and researching programs with a little more variation, since I think I've exhausted what I can get out of a straight LP.
