What's a carb? A car part? What's a macro? A type of camera lens?

protein scam

Post by cole » Mon Jan 15, 2018 8:00 pm

does anyone else worry that they are just ingesting a rip off pretend protein? i mean who is to say that im not drinking corn starch and sweetners? what types of protiens (brand names) do you all take and do you trust them? im taking optimum nutrition whey, i think they are prob legit but i have doubts sometimes and lately have been relying more on simple foods like milk and eggs and peanut butter.

I take 4 scoops of 40-45g of ON whey every day. Tastes good, and you can get good sale prices on it at Costco.

I order the Glanbia Provon 292 in 20 kilo bags. Plain isolate.
It's what's in a lot of branded products.

Looks to have a pretty good profile, and a 20kg bag would be very convenient. Where can one order that? I can't find any direct to consumer order forms after briefly poking around.

Bulk supplements.com
https://www.bulksupplements.com/whey-pr ... te-90.html
Last time i ordered it was $243

*still that price.

Pretty sure that comes to $5.44 lb
Free shipping.
I have lots of screw top plastic containers i store it in.

They don't explicitly say provon 292 on the site, but that's what i get.
I do wonder if they will ever send something different.
But, they do say 90% pure isolate, so that covers it.

Glanbia is one of the world leaders making the stuff, so i'd be surprised if they used something else considering that's what they use now.

I may just try it out. I recently bought some Myprotein whey concentrate that was on sale. It was garbage. Much prefer the Optimum Nutrition Isolate that I normally get. Maybe I'll try a smaller pouch first, that way I'm not stuck with something I don't like for, oh, the next year.

Damn, what flavor(s)? I just ordered 11lbs of their whey isolate today. Previously used ON Gold Standard, Extreme Milk Chocolate. The Myprotein was like $6/lb after all the discounts, ON is $10-11 lb on amazon depending on quantity. I ordered the "chocolate smooth" flavor, hope it's at least palatable. Labdoor says it's higher quality, so there's that at least.

I’ve been buying myprotein concentrate for a couple of years. No issues. Used to buy ON. Just ordered 22 lbs of myprotein isolate to try it.

Myprotein is rated better than ON, BTW.

@omaniphil @TimK
What i order is plain. If flavor factors into your choice, then you might be unhappy with this.

It's instantized, and that's it.

Chocolate smooth. You might be ok with the isolate though - I had the concentrate.

The flavor was ok, and I know its pretty highly rated. I just hated the consistency. It made shakes that were too thick. I prefer thinner shakes - easier to drink.

Fair warning, I'm 274 lb right now, so that'll be an expensive night for you.

I've been buying unflavored isolate form them for probably a couple years now. I've been happy with it. I never tried the concentrate though. Let us know what you think about the difference.

MyProtein Glazed doughnut isolate just tastes like sugar. Just FYI. Banana is alright. Adventures in discount flavors!

I've made two shakes with it so far. It seems to mix better than concentrate, but my sample size is small. Flavor is similar, but slightly different. A little less sweet - I bought Natural Chocolate for both the concentrate and isolate.
