Nice work! Going 9/9 feels good, and you likely won't feel like you got hit by a truck for a week.Wilhelm wrote: ↑Sat Feb 24, 2018 7:57 pm Maine State Powerlifting championships. USAPL 2018

This was so much more fun than i could have imagined.

Tired AF right now.
Could have squatted more, could have pulled more. But i don't regret following my plan, which was to do well, but be conservative for my first meet.

Yeah, @gtl, just a small passenger car.
My upper abs threatened to cramp on my 2nd and 3rd bench set ups.
Never happened before.
Maybe the harder cushion got more energy into my arch.
Crisis averted in any case.

2018 "Give Me LIberty or Give me No Lift" USAPL meet, held at Fearless Athletics in Philadelphia. I weighed in at 116.4kg (256.6lb), and went 7/9, missing two deadlifts.
Squat: 3/3 with 192.5, 205, and 215kg. (424.4, 451.9, and 474lb).
Bench Press: 3/3 with 145, 152.5, and 160kg (319.7, 336.2, and 352.7lb).
Deadlift: 1/3 with 265kg (584.2lb), missing 280kg (617.3lb) twice.
This is a 1410.9 lb total, and was suitable for a silver medal in 120kg male, raw, open division. It was a great experience, and a well-run meet.

Canadian Nationals - Masters II 105KG class
I lifted on Wednesday and my son lifted Friday. We spent the day in Banff yesterday at the sulphur hot springs, and flew back home late last night. The meet was well run and in a great venue. I got to meet some famous powerlifters (Kelly Branton, Blaine Somner, etc.) and personalities as well. My son did a workout at Calgary Barbell which is the home gym of Bryce Krawczyk which was kind of cool.
Meet results:
Squat - 195, 205, 212.5KG or 468lbs. Got all three lifts; 212.5 was a grinder which was surprising since 465 went well and fast in training.
Bench - 155F, 155KG or 341lbs, 160F - Rookie failed my first bench by not waiting for the start command. Got the second lift but failed the third. Interesting that the first 155 was easy, the second was hard, and 160 wouldn't go. I was expecting to do 165 or so.
Deadlift - 220, 235, 242.5KG or 534lbs, - Got all three lifts. 242.5 was difficult.
Total - 610KG or 1342lbs. Made a 2.5KG PR from my previous best. I finished 2nd in my class and won the silver. I had no chance of beating the first place competitor who totaled 668.
Wilks - 367.769 - Enough to qualify for the Worlds, as the minimum Wilks is 365 for a masters II lifter.
I was a little disappointed with my performance, as I had done better lifts in training just before the meet. I was near the weight cut off so to be on the safe side I didn't eat much the day before and dehydrated myself before the meet which likely affecting things a bit. Class limit was 105KG and I came in at 102.44KG or 225lbs, so I over compensated a bit. Lifting at 08:30am in the morning didn't help either.
It was quite an experience. Things moved fast and it seemed like I just finished a lift and within a few minutes it was my turn again. With 500+ lifters at the meet there were 2 platforms going simultaneously, so there was lots happening all the time. They had Geno "the pirate" Biancheri as the announcer and he kept the crowd well entertained. My mom who lives in Calgary had never been to a meet before and really enjoyed it. I met Viola from the forums who lifted, coached, and was a meet official as well.
I'm sure I'm leaving things out. The event was live streamed and is on you tube as well, so I'll patch together a video of my lifts soon. The camera angles were spot on.

Nice to PR your total too.
Lifting in the morning has to be tough, but you did well. Recovered nicely to go on to a successful meet and that nice qualifying total.
So wait, worlds are in Canada this year, right? Am i remembering that correctly?

Re: Powerlifting Meets/Results
Worlds are in Calgary this year as well. I've applied to be a member of the Canadian team already but they only pick two lifters maximum per weight/age category so I may not make the team even though I came in second. Another Canadian that didn't lift in my event is the world record holder. He competed in the open class at the Nationals to get more competition and had a 755 total I believe.Wilhelm wrote: ↑Sun Feb 25, 2018 4:27 pmI watched your flight.Skid wrote: ↑Sun Feb 25, 2018 3:59 pm Canadian Nationals - Masters II 105KG class

This guy travels quick. He announced the meet I did in Philly on Saturday, which started at 9AM.
His announcing made for an awesome meet. Every lifter got announced, and most got a positive comment or a word of encouragement. There was one guy named "Austin", so Geno's line was "Come on, Austin. Power it up!".

Ian, congrats on your comp too! Nice Total!
Thanks Cole! I coached my son as well. He had world class competition in the Junior category at age 18 and was 20 pounds too light (despite eating us out of house and home) and finished 12 out of 16 lifters. He's got 6 years in this class and needs to fill out quite a bit more to be competitive. It was a good experience for him though as he got to meet quite a few of the famous lifters. He says he's going to the dark side and will start pulling Sumo!
