New meet announced.
Closer to me, so i don't have to get a motel room.
Doing this one instead of the September meet, as i'm not sure how good a result i could get in a second meet so soon.
It's the same Host, but he's hauling all the gear in.
I think his gym would eventually be too small as things get more popular here in Maine with the USAPL meets.

I'll have three women lifters going.
In the end, one was sick and the other was taking an overseas trip, so it was just Giulia. After eight months of training, in her first meet she went 140/60/150 for a 350kg total, lifting in the 110s unwrapped. The winner in her weight class totalled 500, wrapped - doing only her openers in each case, just wanted to qualify for Nationals! There's a depth of competition there wasn't several years ago.

Went 7/9 yesterday. Squats went the best. Narrowly missed thirds on bench and deads. Goal was 601/484/645 for a 1730 total. Ended up with 601/458/606 for a 1665 total instead. Minor errors made. Will get it next time.

Positives: 600 squat club, winning best lifter.

Daaamn! Very nahce!

I thought USAPL meets allowed baby powder? I've never used it but I'm almost certain several lifters used it at the meet I did last summer

Thanks guys.
Powder is allowed in the rule book. However, the meet director can use his or her discretion to disallow it. Also a venue may disallow it. In my case the meet director made the decision. It’s fair for the competition between lifters but I don’t think it’s fair for the lifters who are there to make personal records, and other records to be at a disadvantage. I think most ppl missed their last deadlift. Max deads like powder.

I could’ve pulled something for a total pr but I compete for that new 1rm. That moment on the platform when you make it and it has been witnessed. The lights in your face. The pressure. It would be a waste to pull a sub max with all that adrenaline.

Completed today in the newly formed Australian Powerlifting Union. The meet was small (15 lifters) but really well run, and the gym that held it was great. Big warm up space, lots of warm up racks, etc.

I went 200/130/210. Not great, and 20kg under my best total, but given my run of shitty injuries I'm happy with the experience.

Meet director wouldn't allow thumb tape which made hook grip trouble, but talc was allowed and I think it helped.

@simonrest good job getting back out there after being injured and giving it a shot. Glad to see you guys down under are figuring things out with the federations.

Cheers mate, but things have actually gotten worse with the federations. I'll update the other thread....

Thanks man- I didn't even have an Exodus shirt... [embarrassment]. Fixing that for the next meet.

@Root was bigger and more handsome than I had even dreamed. And @TimK drove all the way out for moral support and probably also to admire Root.

I've done 2 USAPL meets in Michigan before BarBellum took over. They run a pretty tight ship compared to the previous folks.

Pros
Meet was well organized with 2 platforms running simultaneously, so things moved pretty fast (almost too fast). They had A LOT of staff/volunteers to keep things smooth. The meet director and associated staff were all very supportive and positive. There were plenty of 45# plates for warmups.

Cons
Audio was not great (music was loud but dialogue was indecipherable). Warm up equipment (besides plate availability) could've been much better. There was an "Equipment Check" table, but no one actually checked anything and you could've just skipped them because they weren't keeping track.

I went 8 for 8 (waived last deadlift) and hit all the numbers I planned. Good meet.

Michigan barbellum was a total success. Well run and all that. I had a wildly successful day lifting. My best-case-scenario lifts in my head were 500/335/585, and I didn't really expect to achieve all of them. Ended up going 9/9 and getting 230/157.5/265 or 507/347/584. Those are 7, 12, and 14 lb PRs. And my previous bench PR was TnG, so that's even bigger.

It was great meeting @broseph (aka Hairy Nilsson), Mrs. broseph, and @TimK. Hope to see all again soon, and maybe get humbled by TimK in the August meet.

Fun anecdote: I realized during "equipment check" that I somehow left my chucks at home, meaning I had to pull in heels, which I used to do but haven't in a couple years. Not a disaster, but certainly not ideal. So come deadlift time, I warm up and adjust to the heels ok, but I'm definitely feeling off. I pull my first and second attempts, which feel just ok, and then figure I might as well ask, so I ask two (TWO) of the judges - one of which is the head judge - if it's ok if I pull in socks only. They both say yes. Awesome. So when the third attempts start, I kick off my shoes where my girlfriend is sitting in the bleachers and go up to take my third attempt. The head judge stops me as I'm gripping the bar and tells me I have to be wearing shoes. wtf. "But you told me and so did he...." "Nope, sorry, I thought you meant.....". I don't know what they thought I meant, but there was a miscommunication somewhere. So at this point I have 45 seconds left of my minute to start my lift. They haven't been strict on timing, but I really don't want to time out, so I run back over to the bleachers, throw on my shoes, completely unlaced, and walk back up - careful not to trip - and immediately grip it and rip it. Much success.

LOL. I felt small next to both of you. I can only hope that one day I too will be an equally majestic mountain of masculinity.

It was great meeting you guys and watching you lift!
