Competed in British Columbia Provincial meet today. Masters 3, 120kg class (weighed 111kg)
Squat
Opener - 215kg/474lb - Got two whites and a red for depth
2nd - 227.5kg/501lb - Meet PR - Made sure I buried it and met my goal of over 500lbs in a meet
3rd - 232.5kg/512lb - All time PR, 12.5kg over my previous meet best and 5kg over my gym best - felt I left a bit in the tank on this, but happy with the result.
Bench
Opener - 155kg/342lb - went good
2nd - 162.5kg/358lb - harder, but a bit left in the tank
3rd - 167.5kg/369lb - tied my previous meet PR, a bit under my gym PR - Not much left here, pretty maxed out.
Deadlift
Opener - 235kg/518lb - Felt heavy but moved well
2nd - 247.5kg/545lb - Getting close to max
3rd - 255kg/562lb - All time PR, 5kg over my previous meet best - The weight moved well, but almost lost the grip in my right hand.
Total - 655kg/1444lbs -
I went 9 for 9 and set Masters 3 provincial records on all lifts and total. Pr'd my squat and deadlift, and tied my best comp bench from 5 years ago, although I had to jump up in a weight class as I weighed 111kg vs my usual under 105kg weight class. Didn't feel like trying to cut.
Sometimes I wonder why I even compete, as I find it stressful. Glad it's over anyways...
New CPU rules prevented my son (my coach) from taking video, but the event was recorded on a live stream broad cast. I'll see if I can get video and post it later. Right now I'm pretty tired from spending 2 days at a meet (coached my son yesterday), and the long drive home. Time for a good hot soak in the tub!

I watched the replay of your session. It was impressive how much strength you held on to with such a large weight cut! Did you do a write up of your meet experience anywhere else online, and in particular, do you care to share what your plans are for what weight you'll compete at in the future? I didn't lose nearly as much weight as you did, and I'm surprised by how much strength I lost and I'm still not entirely sure where I really am at my strongest (from the point of view of DOTS). I'm interested in your thoughts on this!

I look back at it now, and am not as disappointed as i was on the day.
If i were looking at it as some unknown 62 year old at 72.8kg, i'd say "nice work" lol
My bottom line was i did have a great time, and the meet was super useful for knocking the rust off for fall
It had been a full year since i was on the platform.
It was always a tightrope of healing up back and shoulder, losing weight to make my lifts score well DOTS wise with the amount i was able to push training.
I missed by a couple of weeks the point where all those things intersected best.
Going forward i will lift in -82.5kg
If and when i am able to PR mu 530kg total from 92.1kg, but down in -75kg, i will dip down just into that class to post my numbers
At this point, 532.5kg in -75kg is #3 all years USAPL for M3a -75kg
So i have 2 1/2 years to get that.
If it seems unreasonable, i will just plug away at -82.5kg
540kg there will get me the same #3 ranking all years
Both?
That would be great.
For now i'm just enjoying training in a surplus for the first time since Oct 2022

Yeah, I thought you had a great performance! It's hard to peak right especially when you don't have data at such a low weight. I think I'm discovering I'm at my strongest (according to DOTS) around 180-185 lbs. I'm a bit fluffy at 185. I feel good under 180 so I'll push for that going forward for the next maybe year or so and then see how things are going.
You have a nice long runway to slowly gain weight. A lot of that will certainly be new muscle. It will be fun to watch your DOTS climb as you pack it on. I've gotta be honest, I'm keeping your lifts and progress in view as a reference point for the next 10 years of my lifting. I just turned 50. If I can be doing what you're doing when I hit my 60s, then my lifting journey will be a success.

well then im here to say that im using you @KarlM for my reference point for my next 10 years since i just turned 40! what you have done from 43-50 is awesome. although i do think 40's and 50's are one thing, 60's are another. if i can be like @Wilhelm or @Skid in my 60s then ill consider my journey a success. Hell, i cant even be like skid now so i doubt ill be where he is at when im 60 but ill try

Wife's nephew lives in Ipswich, so we're going to visit them, and i'll drive 20 miles to the meet rather than 300.

Oh gosh. Lasha so old and broken, the pain after his last lift. So glad he got it, but please retire.
