It sounds like it's great for anything that's shelf-stable for a month or two.

Read a few pages of forum about it at BeerAdvocate. Man beer snobs can be awful. "No real appealing offerings like JHAHD or AYEPM or FGW, not going to waste my time adding this to my system of weekly bottle-shop trips and trading around the country. lol Ommegang who even wastes their money on that stuff? In three trips I could have all of the rarest stuff they've sold!"

Honestly, I haven't had much time to get to my local store, and any time I do I end up getting overwhelmed anyways, and realistically I don't care about hunting out those whale beers anyways. Picking up 5-6 beers a month off my porch would just be perfect.

I took a trip to Tree House a couple months ago and got 3 or 4 cases of beer which I've almost finished. Good beer but I'm pretty much sick of it now and I can't see blowing half a day just to pick up a couple six pack. And of course anyone who drove four hours each way and waited in line for a whole morning once a month when you could only GET a six pack will tell you that the beer is shit since they expanded production (who fucking knows if that's halfway true?). I have no desire to have to deal with making multiple trips to multiple breweries to pick up enough to trade with people, that's far deeper into a hobby than I want to get when all I'm interested in is trying a decent variety of tasty beer.

Just Final Absolution and something called Larry's Lionheart PA. I could go for a Final Absolution right now. Great for a sunny early spring day. Less so this horrible mess of "spring."
For the longest time I had Dragonmead and Dragon's Milk mixed up.

I've had a few new beers since I last checked in here.

Stone Enjoy By 4.20.2018: Very solid West Coast IPA. I think Stone's "Enjoy By" Series of IPA, particularly the unfiltered varieties are delicious. This one gets a solid 8.5/10.

Stone Totalitarian: Pretty big Russian Imperial Stout. Very dark and roasty which does a great job of covering the fact that it's 10.6% ABV

I'm drinking a Castle Island Hi-Def right now. It's pretty good, juicy and smooth. Also had a Greater Good Greylock before this. Hard to believe they are 12%. I feel like these have lost some flavor compared to the batches I had last year.

I’m drinking the last Hopslam from a six pack I bought about a month ago. Tasty.

This was pretty good, but I've had this sinus thing going on for something like 3 weeks now so I couldn't smell much.

I had to dump out another one a few days ago. Did you pack that up in the truck?

I bought it just after moving.

My local grocery store put some out over the weekend. It makes me wonder if there is something up with my beer fridge, or if they released a new batch, or something.

"Wild Beer Weekend"

#211

Post by Allentown » Fri Apr 20, 2018 12:46 pm

Picked up a few bottles of a Brett ale with blackberries and sage (this is fantastic, had it at a fest) and a barrel aged wild fermented stout. Got a sample of a tart IPA with grapefruit and mint. Going back to the same place tomorrow- looking forward to trying the house sour ale aged in gin barrels with hibiscus. They also have a wild fermented farmhouse ale with roasted bananas and yellow curry, farmhouse ale with pink peppercorns and lemon juice, saison with cinnamon and poppy seeds, and a house sour aged in bourbon barrels with lemons and honey.
And, actually, I am going back again on Sunday for a members only tour.

The gin barrel and curry beers were the best two. Up to 948 unique beers!

I'm not a big fan of sours or saisons here so those all sound terrible...

In other drinking related news, we got takeout Chinese food the other night and my girlfriend said something along the lines of "wouldn't it be great if they offered takeout scorpion bowls too?" So I improvised a scorpion bowl for us at home based on a couple recipes I saw online. It was delicious but I had a beer afterwards and then another mixed drink and definitely regretted it the next day....

12 oz pineapple juice
2 oz lime juice
2 oz grenadine
2 oz 151
2 oz vodka
2 oz gin
4 oz rum

Stir well with ice.

Hell no. I could probably drink one of that batch and it wouldn't kill me but I'd spend the whole next day in bed. Half of it was just right to get me pleasantly buzzed for an evening of Bosch.

It's only 10 oz of booze, why not?

I've gotten pretty bad at drinking in the last year. I think the reasonable possibility of needing to drive to the ER at any moment has lead to that.

I was discussing something similar with a friend at the bar on Sat. Two-limit-Long-Islands used to be the warmup for the night. Then, IF they actually enforced the limit and you were too lazy to get around it by ordering at the bar on a different tab, you just switched to beer or something.
This weekend it took me 3 trips to the bar to try all of the above beers. Well, not even all, two are sitting at home in bottles. And I did samples and tasters of most of them.
