Tony Rice FTW. Anyone can wheedle deedle with tiny strings and a Marshall stack. Trying doing it acoustically while trying to be heard over banjo, fiddle, and mandolin. Used to be a helluva singer as well.

I didn’t think I would really win with that! I guess the threadkiller strikes again.

@Root, we need you in aisle 5 for a cleanup.

Clapton is the guitar Phill Collins.

I agree with this.

Edit: disclaimer - I meant Collins playing drums.

Lol. Except that Phil Collins seemed to keep his skills even when he went 80s pop. Clapton probably couldn't reproduce his guitar solo from "Crossroads" if he tried.

And what's really sad is that his solo from Crossroads (or any other song) wasn't impressive to begin with.

I'm mostly sure this was just top choice grade A Angus shitposting. The mention of pentatonic scale and drum machine are my clues.

Yes and I love how this is extremely off topic and not in the shitposting forum.

@Root Clapton only started to suck post Derek and the Dominoes when he decided to the 70s sellout thing. He continued that for the rest of his career.

I happen to have no less than 17 albums in my collection that are graced by his beautiful voice. How many do you have, motherfucker?

And Phil Collins only started to suck after Steve Hackett took off and left him more free to take the band in a shark-jumping direction. As much as I'd love to hate Phil absolutely A Trick of the Tail and Wind & Wuthering are pretty decent albums and he did an ok job singing For Absent Friends and More Fool Me even when Gabriel was around.

I don't hate Phil and I actually think that Abacab and Invisible Touch weren't bad albums considering how bad rock music had gotten in general. And you can't put down No Jacket Required. Clapton just became listless generic crap when he went solo.

Peter Gabriel is/was always cool. Especially when he was with Genesis, but his solo stuff never really jumped the shark as far as I know. With that said I always live by the principle that most musicians are stale and/Or looking for a steady paycheck by the time they're 40 so its hard to expect anything earth-shattering. Clapton sucked by the time he was in his mid 20s. He had just perfected the crap by the time Journeyman came out.

Wrong. Even when he was in Cream, his guitar playing was mediocre.
